18-Red Coach

SMBC is proud to announce the hiring of Micah Golden-Grant to take over the 18-Red team in the spring of 2010. To read more about Micah, please read his biography under the coaches link. Mariko Coverdale remains as an assistant coach on the team.

Boys Spring 2010 Tryouts Preliminary Flyer

The Spring 2010 Tryouts (for new players only) are TENTATIVELY set on Saturday, May 8 of 2010 and the first spring practice (continuing from the 2009 fall season & new players from the spring of 2010 not in CIF playoffs) is on May 16.

Congratulations

Congratulation to our 18-B and 17-B for earning a bid to the open division at the 2010 Junior Olympics in Austin, Texas. If you have any photos from this weekend, please e-mail them to me at nabil.mardini@smbcvolleyball.com. We would love to post them in the Gallery online.

Announcements

BDX TESTING NUMBERS & ROSTERS ON THE WEBSITE - All the fitness testing and measurements, performed by BDX, are uploaded under the players' profiles on the website. You will be able to view the data by clicking on a particular name of any roster and the data will appear on the right hand side of the page.

MISSED PRACTICE PROTOCOL FOR 15's THRU 18's DIVISIONS - This protocol was on hold during the Holiday season and now in effect again starting January 4th.

PHOTO GALLERY - As announced earlier and frequently, if any of our members have taken photos of the various SMBC teams at the tournaments, I would greatly appreciate it if you e-mail them to Andre Lennox (andre.lennox@smbcvolleyball.com) or simply get them to me on a CD. We have many great albums (current and previous seasons) uploaded in the "Photo Gallery".

Congratulations

CHAMPIONS!!! Congrats to our SMBC 18-Black team and its coaching staff on winning the 2009 SCVA Holiday Classic. SMBC 18-B defeated Manhattan Beach Surf 18-1, Balboa Bay 18-1, and Riptides OC 18-1 in the championship match.

More good news, congrats to our SMBC 18-Silver team and its coaching staff on finishing 5th overall in the 2009 SCVA Holiday Classic. Kudos to the boys, Raissa, and Marvin.

Junior Holiday Classic

The Santa Monica Beach Club Black 18-under boys' volleyball team captured the 96-team SCVA Junior Holiday Classic this past weekend in Anaheim, going 10-0 to win the title, capped by a 25-21, 25-19 victory over Riptides OC 18 Orange in Sunday's final.

Santa Monica Beach Club, led by Crespi of Encino's Daniel Stork and Brandon Lebroc, Alemany of Mission Hills' Matt Tarantino and Valencia's Nick Ferry, won all four playoff matches after being seeded 11th in the gold bracket.

SMBC's 18-under silver team finished tied for fifth, losing 25-17, 25-17 in the quarterfinals to Riptides OC 18 Orange.

Congratulations


Congratulations to 14-Black for winning a Bronze Medal at JO's. They defeated Balboa Bay 14 Quicksilver (22-25, 25-18, 15-13). This is SMBC's first medal at JO's in the 14 and under division since 1991.

SCVA Website

Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA) - For those of you who are not familiar on how to view the various tournament pools and sites on the Southern California Volleyball Association website (www.scvavolleyball.org). Go to the link "Juniors", scroll down to "boys" and click on "weekend sites".

On the SCVA website, you find all the information you need in terms of tournaments, site directions, etc. Normally, the SCVA posts the playing sites for the various age groups on the Wednesday prior to the weekend's tournament.Once connected you can click on the relevant age group to locate your team's pool, start time and site location. Note: Morning pools have players arriving at approximately 7:00 AM and afternoon pools arrive at approximately 1:00 PM. Your coach will confirm your site & needed arrival time.
