Mona Greenberg

It is with deepest sadness that we relay the following news: after a long battle with cancer, Mona Greenberg passed away peacefully in her sleep yesterday afternoon.

Mona was an important and influential SMBC administrator in the mid-1990's and played a major role in the rise of SMBC Girls as a regional and national club volleyball powerhouse.

She was instrumental in making the Volleyball Festival in Reno the tremendously enjoyable experience it remains to this day (she helped pioneer the SMBC Talent Show and Barbeque and was one of the negotiators on the original contract between SMBC and the Hilton Hotel, now the Grand Sierra Resort, which remains in place even now.

Mona is survived by her daughter Rachel (SMBC Class of 2002, Santa Clara University), her son and her husband. In the name of the entire Santa Monica Beach Club family, we extend our deepest heart-felt condolences to the Greenberg Family.

Thank you for so many great memories and we will miss you, Mona.

THE FESTIVAL IS COMING! THE FESTIVAL IS COMING!

Less than three months remain before the Santa Monica Beach Club players, parents, coaches and administrators uproot to Reno for the annual year-end Volleyball Festival. The week-long event caps the season off in style with our opening ceremonies costumes, the Talent Show and Barbeque and, last but certainly not least, five fun-filled days of volleyball.

The Festival has proven a veritable stomping ground for our teams in recent years: no club has seen more consistent success at the Festival than SMBC.

In both 2006 and 2007, an SMBC team competed in the Gold Championship Bracket (the "Sweet Sixteen") in every age group offered: 12's, 13's, 14's, 15's, 16's, 17's and 18's. No other club in the country can boast of such incredibly consistent performance across the wide spectrum of their teams.

Needless to say, we are expecting great things from our teams this Festival with several squads in serious contention to win their age divisions outright.

So keep working hard SMBC players.

Congratulations

Congratulations to our own Alicia ROBINSON (17-1 Head Coach) on being named the new coach for Marlborough High School. The school is very fortunate to get someone like Alicia running their volleyball program. We wish her the best of luck!
