Girls Summer Program
Tuesday, May 6, 2008
SUMMER DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM/CLINICS - Because of the success we had with the summer DEVELOPMENTSL PROGRAM and for the second year in a row, we will be holding on SUNDAY JULY 13th (Tentative) the TRYOUTS for players entering the 5th to the 9th GRADE to form DEVELOPMENTAL TEAMS. If we have the space we will take ALL PARTICIPANTS and place them on a team that is suitable for their skills. You do not need to tryout if you are currently playing for SMBC. You just need to sign up when the time comes. The formed teams will practice twice during the week at HW until the end of August (approximately 15 practice sessions). More information will be handed out at the end-of-the-year meeting (June 21st). Also, we will be holding our usual weekend SUMMER CLINICS during the months of SEPTEMBER and OCTOBER (TBA).

It is with deepest sadness that we relay the following news: after a long battle with cancer, Mona Greenberg passed away peacefully in her sleep yesterday afternoon.
Mona was an important and influential SMBC administrator in the mid-1990's and played a major role in the rise of SMBC Girls as a regional and national club volleyball powerhouse.
She was instrumental in making the Volleyball Festival in Reno the tremendously enjoyable experience it remains to this day (she helped pioneer the SMBC Talent Show and Barbeque and was one of the negotiators on the original contract between SMBC and the Hilton Hotel, now the Grand Sierra Resort, which remains in place even now.
Mona is survived by her daughter Rachel (SMBC Class of 2002, Santa Clara University), her son and her husband. In the name of the entire Santa Monica Beach Club family, we extend our deepest heart-felt condolences to the Greenberg Family.
Thank you for so many great memories and we will miss you, Mona.
